Vaccination Program Consultation

Our equine patients should receive annual vaccines to prevent a variety of diseases. We carry multiple vaccine options to protect youngsters, retired pasture pets and performance horses. Give us a call to let us help you with a vaccine protocol for your horses.

  • Tetanus - A spore based bacteria, tetanus is present in the soil virtually everywhere in Western Canada. Any cut horse, open wound, or castration patient should receive a tetanus vaccine. Additionally, regular boosters allow for preventative protection in the event of a wound.

  • Two-way Vaccines*:
    • Influenza/Flu - A primary respiratory disease that is incredibly contagious.
    • Rhinotracheitis - Protects against herpes viruses. Infections cause lethargy, nasal discharge, and can result in trouble breathing.
*Does not have tetanus included in the vaccine.

  • Three-way Vaccines:
    • Eastern + Western Equine Encephalitis - Mosquito borne viruses that cause severe neurologic disease in vulnerable patients.
    • West Nile Virus - Also spread by mosquitoes, West Nile virus is regularly identified in Western Canada.

  • Five-Way Vaccines - These shots include all of the above in a single shot.

  • Strangles - This is its own vaccine that protects against Strep equi. equi. This bacteria is very contagious and causes severe nasal discharge, lethargy, and in some cases can spread through internal organs. Regular vaccination is recommended if any of your herd leaves the property to mingle with other animals.
